Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts: Good Eating Habits

It's Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts, our new series where the title is almost as long as the actual reviews!  We are going to take a look at a RiffTrax Short almost every day this year, until we run out of shorts.  That will get us through the majority of the year, so strap in for madness!

(Released October 30, 2008)

Good Eating Habits.  Do you know any?  I thought I knew most of them, but after watching this Short, I can honestly say I learned something new.  I also learned that I hadn't actually watched this Short before today.

With Good Eating Habits, we mostly learn the wrong way to eat food.  Sure, they touch on not eating a bunch of trash, but even then it mostly focuses on how not to eat it.

In this Short, we get to follow a boy named Bill.  Bill has a stomach ache, and it's not because he ate bad foods, but because of how he ate the food.  He gulped and gorged and left half of his food uneaten, he stopped on the way home and slammed fistfuls of candy and cookies, and chugged a pop like he needed to rot all of the teeth out of his head yesterday*.  When it was time for dinner he started not feeling well and had to go to bed.

The next day, he ate slower, ate graham crackers for a snack, and ate all the food he was given at mealtime.  No stomachache.

As for what I learned?  Don't wash your food down while your eating.

There are a few ongoing riffs in this one, like Kevin making sound effects for the kid for the first bit and Mike singing the guitar riff from Bad to the Bone after a few lines from the narrator.  Those are some of my favorite bits in riffs, so I enjoyed that quite a bit.

I also really liked finding a Short I had not seen yet, and I'm sure I will find at least a few more as I;m going through this series!

Good Eating Habits gets four bowls of "cereal" out of five.

*I've got a few more lines for this.  I asked some friends to come up with some ideas for it, and some were too good not to share.  He chugged a bottle of pop like...

  • ...he just inhaled a shelf's-worth of dust.
  • ...he thought it was actually still made with real cocaine.
  • ...he desperately wanted it to be one of Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drinks.
  • ...a livestreamer needing to land that sweet sponsorship deal.
  • ...a Canadian chugs syrup.
  • ...the answers to the universe were at the bottom.
  • ...he washing the taste of Santa’s Summer Home out of his mouth.
