During one of my recent daily commutes home from work, I started thinking about Wii games that I haven't played in a while. That turned into me thinking about the games that I would want to see either a remake of, or sequel to, on the Nintendo Switch.
These are all pretty niche titles, but I think they would do good with some new life breathed into them on the Switch.
These are in no particular order.
Deadly Creatures
(THQ, 2009)
Believe it or not, this game is about two guys (voiced by Dennis Hopper and Billy Bob Thornton) searching the desert for Civil War Gold. The story itself happens around the player, as you play as a scorpion and a tarantula. You go around, fighting other creatures, following a story of betrayal, and eventually stabbing Dennis Hopper's character in the nuts as the scorpion.
This game was fun, but flawed. Playing this game again with updated controls and improved graphics could be a great experience.
Elebits
(Konami, 2006)
One of the launch titles for the Wii (and one of the first games I bought, along with Madden 07 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess), this was a physics based game of hide and seek. You had a "capture gun", an item that moves items like a gravity gun, provides energy to items, and captures the Elebits. You start off being able to only move smaller items, but the more Elebits you find and catch, the larger the items you can power on and/or move around.
This game had a sequel on the DS, but it was a completely different style of game. The physics based puzzle version of the Wii version was more fun.
This game could keep the simple graphics style, update the physics, and maybe add some classic FPS style controls to make it a hit on the Switch. I would honestly take either a remake or a straight up sequel.
Endless Ocean/Endless Ocean Blue World
(Nintendo, 2008/2010)
These are two of my favorite games on the Wii. Even with the technical limitations of the system, they did a great job of conveying the feeling of being underwater in a living environment. Between that and the music, they created some amazing atmosphere. Swimming around and trying to find all of the different species of ocean life and finding all of the hidden secrets was some of the most relaxing (and sometimes even terrifying) experiences I've had playing a game.
This series desperately needs a new entry, and the Switch would be a great place for it to land. The second game had a fairly robust picture mode too, and just thinking about doing that in new environments (or even in a remake of either game) makes me drool a little.
Kororinpa Marble Mania/Marble Saga Kororinpa
(Hudson Soft, 2007/2009)
These games were basically Marble Madness with the control style of Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz. There were lots of varied stages and a lot of different marbles/balls to collect.
If they brought this series to the Switch, I imagine it would feel like an entire game made of the puzzles from Breath of the Wild where you have to roll the balls around. And I would love that.
The Munchables
(Namco Bandai, 2009)
This game is the closest thing to a Katamari Damacy game to show up on a Nintendo system, and I don't think I've ever talked to anyone else who has ever played it. That is a damn shame!
The Tabeman Space Pirates come to Star Ving and steal the Legendary Orbs from each of the continents. Your job, as one of the titular Munchables, is to go through each level by eating the pirates. In Katamari fashion, you start small and gradually increase in size while eating pirates that are small enough for you to ingest. The bigger you get, the larger the pirates that you can eat. Unlike with the Katamari games, the levels involve boss fights.
This game was a sleeper hit that almost everyone slept on, and I think it would be an excellent addition to the Switch library.
So, that's my list. Do you agree or disagree? Do you have any Wii games you would like to see make it over to the Switch? Let us know!
