Review: Limited Edition Cotton Candy & S'Mores Oreos

The nutcases at Nabisco are at it again!  Last time I wrote about Oreo cookies, I covered the Cookie Dough and Marshmallow Crispy flavors.  This summer, Nabisco has brought us Cotton Candy and S'More flavored Oreos.  I obviously needed to eat these.

Before digging in, I had my reservations.  All I could think about was how disappointed I was with the Cookie Dough flavor (which has been recently re-released).  I didn't want to face that same disappointment, especially with the S'Mores flavor.

Bottom Shelf Mixology: Peach Pit

Welcome to Bottom Shelf Mixology!  Our staff of Mixologists have racked their brains (and livers) to come up with special "bottom shelf" versions of popular drinks, and some original creations that range from "oh, that might be interesting" to "that sounds absolutely disgusting".

Peach Pit
  • 3 oz Peach Schnapps
  • 3 peach wine coolers
  • 8 oz Heaven Hill Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey
  • 1/4 cup Lemonade Drink Mix
  • 1/2 oz Mrs. Butterworth's Butter Flavored Syrup
  • Ice
In a pitcher, mix the lemonade drink mix, whiskey, peach schnapps, and syrup.  Stir until the drink mix and syrup are dissolved.  Add in the ice and wine coolers.  Stir well.

Leave in refrigerator for 2 hours.

Pour into glasses, and serve to your dinner party guests.  Perfect way to clear out a barbecue after everyone has overstayed their welcome.

My New Top Ten RiffTrax B-Movie Releases

Last August, I compiled a top ten list of my favorite RiffTrax VoD releases.  I had a pretty solid list at that time, too.  Since making that list, however, they have released sixteen new movies and I knew I had to update my list.

This was not an easy venture.  You know those scenes in movies and TV shows where there is a group of people trying to come up with an idea or a verdict in a murder trial, and they are just arguing the whole time?  There is always one guy just sitting there, with his head resting on one or both of his hands, trying to make sense of it all.  I was that guy while working on this list.  I was also everyone else arguing with each other.  Honest to God, this list took me two and a half weeks to finalize.

I am glad I don't work under any sort of deadline.

In the end, only four of the releases from the first list have survived.  The rest are all from the last nine months.

Be sure to argue my list in the comments or on Twitter.

Nintendo Brings Back World Championships For E3 2015

For last year's E3, Nintendo held an outstanding Digital Event for all of their announcements, and then they held a Super Smash Bros. tournament.  This year, they are once again having a Digital Event, but they are going to 1-Up themselves by bringing back the Nintendo World Championships.

I am excited for the Digital Event this year, because I'm expecting it to be bigger and better than last year's!

You can read Nintendo's full announcement below.

Bottom Shelf Mixology: Rotten Apple Pie

Welcome to Bottom Shelf Mixology!  Our staff of Mixologists have racked their brains (and livers) to come up with special "bottom shelf" versions of popular drinks, and some original creations that range from "oh, that might be interesting" to "that sounds absolutely disgusting".

Today is National Apple Pie Day, and we figured we would help you celebrate the BS way with our latest creation!

Rotten Apple Pie
  • 2 oz Apple Pucker
  • 2 oz Applejack
  • 4 oz Apple Sauce (one single serve cup)
  • 1/8 cup finely crushed Apple Jacks cereal
Scoop the apple sauce into a glass.  Slowly stir in the Pucker and the Applejack.

Add the coating of crushed cereal to the top.

Much like the Chunky Piña Colada before it, this one will probably require a spoon.

One of these a day won't keep the doctor away.  In fact, it will probably send you to the hospital.

Two Year Anniversary of the Bottom Shelf

Two years ago, on May 16, our first Bottom Shelf review was published.  Bottom Shelf Russ put his liver and various other internal organs on the line to review Fleischmann's Whiskey.  Two years later, the spirit The Bottom Shelf lives on with Bottom Shelf Mixology.

Through those two years, we have had twelve cheap whiskey reviews, The Whiskey Games Tournament, and twenty-nine drink recipes.  With that many articles, it's hard to find and read all of them.  Because of this, I have assembled this list of everything Bottom Shelf.

Bottom Shelf Mixology: La Recasa De Mayo

Welcome to Bottom Shelf Mixology!  Our staff of Mixologists have racked their brains (and livers) to come up with special "bottom shelf" versions of popular drinks, and some original creations that range from "oh, that might be interesting" to "that sounds absolutely disgusting".

La Recasa De Mayo (The Hangover of May)
  • 6 oz El Matador Tequila
  • 12 oz Tamarindo Soda
  • 12 oz Corona Light
  • Ice
  • Culantro (like cilantro, but worse.)
You're going to need a pitcher for this drink, which is sure to become a new Cinco De Mayo tradition!  Put your ice in the pitcher, and add in the tequila.  Then simultaneously pour in the tamarindo soda and Corona Light.  It is crucial that these are poured in at the same time!*  Also, make sure you don't stir this up.**

When you pour this into a small glass, throw in a handful of culantro.

Drink to celebrate El Día de la Batalla de Puebla, and get a guaranteed hangover for Seis De Mayo!

*This doesn't really matter.
**Really, it doesn't.
