Dum Dums Holiday Pops Ranked By Flavor
Back in October, while looking through Christmas items at a store (the name of which currently escapes me), I found something I wasn't expecting: Dum Dums Holiday Pops. I tried a few as soon as I got home from the store... who am I kidding, I opened the bag in the car... and I put them away, waiting until the proper time to talk about them here.
Actually, I was planning on posting about them sometime in November, but I forgot I had them until tonight. Therefore, the proper time to talk about them is now.
There are eight holiday flavors in this series: Hot Chocolate, Green Apple Grinch, Apple Cider, Gingerbread, Sugar Cookie, Merry Cherry, Sugar Plum, and Polar Punch. I am going to tell you which flavors are good, and which flavors suck, starting with the worst.
Number Eight: Green Apple Grinch
Yes, this is, by far, the worst of the bunch. It has the perfect name for the flavor too, because I'm convinced that green apple flavored candy tastes like the Grinch himself.
Seriously, green apple stuff sucks.
Number Seven: Merry Cherry
Never been a fan of cherry flavored stuff, but I'll take it any day over green apple. There doesn't seem to be anything special about this flavor that lets me know it is supposed to represent any holidays of any sort.
Number Six: Apple Cider
Yes, this flavor gets to go two spaces higher than green apple, because it's not green apple, and doesn't suck so hard. And while it doesn't taste as much like apple cider that I would like it to, I can at least tell that is the flavor they were going for. I still like it better than the cherry flavor at least, and it has a clear theme, so that is why it gets the number six spot.
Number Five: Sugar Plums
This flavor was nice, but I can't honestly say I know what a sugar plum tastes like, so I have nothing to compare it to other than the other flavors in the bag. It's not bad, but it isn't a superstar flavor either.
Number Four: Hot Chocolate
It tastes like a very creamy chocolate, and you can actually pick out a hint of marshmallow flavor. However, it is disturbingly flesh-toned. It creeps me out a bit, and that takes it out of consideration for one of the top three flavors.
Number Three: Gingerbread
I am one of those people that really enjoys some good gingerbread cookies, and that is exactly what this flavor tastes like. They nailed it with this flavor, but it still wasn't good enough for the top spot.
Number Two: Sugar Cookie
I don't think that it would come as a surprise that two of my top three flavors are cookie based. One look at me and you would immediately know that I love me some cookies. And there is nothing better than some good old Christmas sugar cookies. This flavor makes me long for my family Christmas so I can scarf down a whole plate of my grandma's sugar cookies. I really enjoyed this flavor, but it just couldn't snag that top spot.
Number One: Polar Punch
One look at the picture, and I know you are thinking: Polar Punch has either a blue raspberry or blueberry flavor. Well, idiot, you're wrong. And I am just as much of an idiot, because I thought the exact same thing. This isn't blue raspberry, or blueberry, or even cotton candy. Actually, I don't know what it is supposed to taste like. I haven't been able to put a finger on it. All I know is that it tastes like magic, and I love it. It also earns bonus points because it didn't make my entire mouth blue. In fact, it barely turned my tongue blue. Everything about this flavor boggles the mind, and I love every bit of it.
Now, go ahead and tell me how wrong I am about green apple. You people probably like cilantro too.
