CSM '12: A Christmas Story

It's December, and almost Christmas! Therefore, I've decided to do a follow up to my surprisingly popular Halloween Movie Madness! Every night through Christmas Eve, I will be watching a different Christmas movie or special and then rambling on about them, sometimes even being coherent!

A Christmas Story
(1983)

I love this movie so much.  This movie is an institution, not just in my house, but for most of the people I know.  This movie is played for 24 hours straight every year on TBS.  In my house, however, I run the DVD for the same time period, but that is only so I don't have to deal with commercials.

And since everyone is so familiar with this movie, I'm not going to talk about the plot.  I figured I would do something different and list some of my favorite things in the movie.  I'm going to do this in order of appearance, and not by how much I like each entry on the list.  I'm also only doing a few, otherwise I would be here for days typing this post up.

Higbee's Christmas Window Display

A Christmas Story Higbee's Window

I have never gotten to see a window display like this in person, so I've always had to live vicariously through these kids.  I also like the copyright infringing Snow White backdrop.

The Parent's Twin Beds

A Christmas Story Separate beds

I know it was way before my time, but I just don't get the thought behind a husband and wife having seperate beds in the same room.  I can't wrap my head around it.

Black Bart and his Bandits

A Christmas Story Dead Bandits

I love this daydream for two particular reasons.  First, the visual gag with the X's over the eyes of the dead bandits.  The second thing is hearing one of them yell out one of Bender's favorite lines: "Cheese it boys!  The jig is up!"  And yes, I know Bender usually just says "cheese it".

The Drawer of Confiscated Toys

A Christmas Story Drawer of Confiscated Toys

As a kid, I would have loved to have even half of the items in that drawer.  Especially that pocket knife.  I loved my pocket knives.

Firemen and Policemen Coming to School

A Christmas Story Firemen and Policemen

The fact that the police and firemen had to come for a little boy who had his tongue stuck to a pole is hilarious to me, and that isn't even the best part!  They rip his tongue off of the pole!  The fact that they didn't know enough to just get a glass of water boggles my mind.  Did they not have this knowledge back then?

Randy's Food Sculpture

A Christmas Story Randy's Food Sculpture

I always wanted to play with my food as a kid, but this is almost on the level of the mashed potato scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Fragilé

'Nuff said.

Eating Soap

A Christmas Story Eating Soap

He is lucky. My step-mom used liquid dish soap on me.

That is all I'm listing in this post. I can't do any more. Just watch it this Christmas season.
