Christmas Special Mania '12: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

It's December, and almost Christmas!  Therefore, I've decided to do a follow up to my surprisingly popular Halloween Movie Madness!  Every night  through Christmas Eve, I will be watching a different Christmas movie or special and then rambling on about them, sometimes even being coherent!

Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer
(1964)

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Well, lookie here.  Five days into this thing, and I'm just now getting to the first actual special.  This is one of the best Christmas specials out there.  I have also seen this special about one hundred times, and that's just since last Christmas.

Young Rudolph and Santa

See, my daughter saw this for the first time last December, right after her third birthday, and was instantly smitten.  She started watching it over and over.  And over.  And over.  Ad nauseam.  She has the entire thing memorized.  She can run around the house and recite the whole thing, from beginning to end.  And she often does.

She started slowing down on watching it around the time Spring rolled around, but she has never stopped.  It does kind of take away from some of the magic after watching it that many times over the course of a year, but I'll be damned if I don't still love it.

My favorite character isn't Rudolph.  Or Santa, or any of the elves, Sam the Snowman, the misfit toys, or even Yukon Cornelius.  It is the Abominable Snow Monster of the North.  The Bumble is my all time favorite thing to come from this special.  Rudolph's nose drives Bumble into absolute fits of rage.  It's like me with repetitive sounds.  They drive me insane and make me want to roar and throw things at people.  And no, I'm not just a jerk.  It's Misophonia, look it up.  I even love him when he's a humble Bumble without his teeth.

Abominable Snow Monster of the North

I know I don't need to go into any detail about this special, because if you haven't seen it before, it's probably because you hate freedom.  And if that's the case, I don't think I want to fill you in on anything else you may be unfamiliar with.

Tonight's musical selection is, of course, Carol of the Bells by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  F.Y.I. Carol of the bells is my favorite Christmas song.
