HMM '12 Day 29: The Lost Boys

It's October! That means two very important things: Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts are here, and Halloween is near! My favorite thing to do in October to prepare myself for Halloween is to, of course, watch movies that I feel best exemplify the season. Now, this doesn't just mean extreme gore fests (of course, I do love me some gore), but I like to include movies that have that Halloween feel. Anyway, let's get to Day 29 of Halloween Movie Madness 2012!

The Lost Boys
(Warner Bros., 1987)

Take Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, and Jack Bauer.  Stick them all in the same movie, and throw in a few cups of the 80's.  Stir thoroughly.  Cook for 97 minutes, and you should have a wonderful looking copy of The Lost Boys.

The movie, directed by Joel Schumacher, centers around a woman and her two sons moving from Arizona to Santa Carla, California.  And Santa Carla, you see, has a slight problem of the suckmonkey type.  By suckmonkey, I mean vampire.

I only included this shot because of the Peanut Butter Boppers. I love those things!

The movie is the first pairing of the two Coreys, a move that created shock waves that are still felt to this day.  The Haim plays the recently uprooted younger son, and the Feldman plays one half of the Frog Brothers.  The Frog Brothers are very obsessed with all things vamp.

On the first night there, the two Emerson brothers go to an outdoor concert, where the older brother Michael becomes entranced by Star.  Michael starts to follow star and Sam stops in to a comic shop.  This is where he meets the Frogs.  After some normal comic collector squabbling, the Frogs give Sam a comic that could save his life.

The next night, Michael goes off with Star and Jack Bauer, where they trick him into eating maggots and then drinking vampire blood.  Without spoiling anything, after this point, Sam, the Frogs, and Michael try to find the head vampire so they can kill him and free Michael from turning into a vampire.

If you have never seen it, you probably won't be too disappointed.  If you haven't seen it in a while, maybe it's time for you to plan a trip back to Santa Carla.
