HMM '12 Day 21: Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil

It's October! That means two very important things: Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts are here, and Halloween is near! My favorite thing to do in October to prepare myself for Halloween is to, of course, watch movies that I feel best exemplify the season. Now, this doesn't just mean extreme gore fests (of course, I do love me some gore), but I like to include movies that have that Halloween feel. Anyway, let's get to Day 21 of Halloween Movie Madness 2012!

Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil
(Magnolia Pictures, 2010)

Before tonight, I had only seen bits and pieces of this movie.  Now I just feel like an idiot for not watching it sooner.  This movie is great!

This entire movie is based around preconceived notions and miscommunications.  And all of the deaths? Accidental.  This movie makes A Series of Unfortunate Events look like a leisurely stroll through the park.  Not that I know anything about that movie.  I'm basing this on titles alone.  For all I know, that other story could actually be about a stroll through a park.

The movie starts out with a group of college kids heading out for a camping trip.  On their way up, they run across Tucker and Dale, each time a little more creepy and awkward.  The college kids think that Tucker and Dale are psycho killers.  In reality, Tucker and Dale are just heading up to their "vacation home" a.k.a. the cabin that was owned by a couple of serial killers (who killed a group of college kids twenty years prior).

After the college kids get settled in, they decide to go skinny dipping.  One of the girls falls and hits her head, and Tucker and Dale help her out of the water, and the group of kids think that our heroes were kidnapping her.  That is when everything starts going crazy.  The college kids all start accidentally dying while trying to rescue their friend, and our heroes think there is some sort of suicide pact happening.

Not a spoiler because it's a flashback!
As much as I want to keep talking about this movie, I have to stop here so I don't spoil the good bits for everyone.  There is a decent amount of gore in this movie, but it is almost entirely played for laughs.  A lot of it will get an audible reaction from you, usually from the abruptness of it.

If you are looking for a movie that is just a hell of a lot of fun, this is a great choice.
