HMM '12 Day 16: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

It's finally October! That means two very important things: Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts are here, and Halloween is near! My favorite thing to do in October to prepare myself for Halloween is to, of course, watch movies that I feel best exemplify the season. Now, this doesn't just mean extreme gore fests (of course, I do love me some gore), but I like to include movies that have that Halloween feel. Anyway, let's get to Day 16 of Halloween Movie Madness 2012!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(20th Century Fox, 1992)

If you have never seen this movie, and you enjoy the Buffy TV series, you might be disappointed a bit.  Yes, the movie was written by Joss Whedon.  However, his script was not what ended up on the screen.  In fact, the movie is not considered canon with the TV show.  However, that doesn't mean you should discount this movie.  It's a fun watch, and it has one of the best death scenes ever filmed.

I’ve always enjoyed this movie for what it was, and I never actually seen the television series.  I’m kind of glad about that too, because I don’t know how I would feel about the movie if I had.  As it stands, it is a fairly competent comedy about vampires and the people that kill them.  In this case, it’s your typical valley girl.  Buffy starts out as an obnoxious snobby bitch, but she ends up an ass-kicking vampire slayer.  Along the way, she saves Luke Perry and he ends up helping her to fight off the vampires.

My favorite part of the movie is the aforementioned glorious death of Pee-Wee Herman.  He takes forever to die and we get a constant stream of “ooohh”, “aaaahhh”, and “ooowwww” flowing from his blood sucking lips.  If you haven’t seen it, I can best compare it to that one time in Family Guy where they are mocking Willy Wonka. That scene where Peter is running home and he falls and hurts his leg, only it’s about as twice as long.

Tomorrow's (or tonight's... do I count it by when I watch the movie or when I make my post about it?) movie is Ravenous.
