HMM '12 Day 10: From Dusk Till Dawn

It's finally October! That means two very important things: Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts are here, and Halloween is near! My favorite thing to do in October to prepare myself for Halloween is to, of course, watch movies that I feel best exemplify the season. Now, this doesn't just mean extreme gore fests (of course, I do love me some gore), but I like to include movies that have that Halloween feel. Anyway, let's get to Day 10 of Halloween Movie Madness 2012!

From Dusk Till Dawn
(Dimension Films, 1996)

Tonight, we have a last minute substitution.  I was going to do Ernest Scared Stupid, but I want to include my son in the viewing of that one.  This is also going to be rather short because I feel like someone smacked me over the head with a steel pipe a few times.  Maybe it was because I ran around with a chair on my head for a bit today.

You probably thought I was joking.

From Dusk Till Dawn starts off in a small convenience store in Texas.  It is here that we are introduced to the Gecko brothers, Seth and Richie.  Seth is the cool and collected one, and Richie is… well… he’s a little messed up in the head.  I don’t mean that like he’s slow or anything, he’s just psychotic.  Killing people whenever he gets the chance and whatnot.  Some things happen, and we then get introduced to Jacob, Kate, and Scott Fuller.  Jacob is an ex-pastor and Kate and Scott are his two children.  They all take a little trip down to Mexico, and they end up in a bar where things are not how they appear.

One of my favorite things about this movie is how it starts off as a crime drama, and about halfway through it turns into a horror flick.  And when it does, it really hits the fan, big time.  I can’t even recall how many times I have seen this movie.  There is just so much about it to love.  The gore, the soundtrack, the extremely hot Salma Hayek, the fact that Cheech Marin plays three different roles, and the band’s human instruments.

This movie, along with Desperado (another movie by Robert Rodriguez), are movies that I consider to be two of the best “Guy Movies” out there.  These are the movies that you watch with some other guys while you are sitting around drinking.  They make for some good times.

This is an excellent movie.  Go watch it.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to run through China
